The presenter will share from her experience of working with over 70 couples and individuals involved in some aspect of an affair using a relational approach. The discussion will include common character and interpersonal dynamics that arise in couples work as well as the impact of culture, class and sexual orientation. Additionally, explanation will be given on the dynamics of working with individuals currently involved in an undisclosed affair. At the end of the presentation, participants will learn how contemporary psychoanalytic theory can be applied to couples therapy. Theories referenced will include relational, intersubjective, self psychology, British Independent, attachment and Bion.
